In the west(democracies) political ideologies are living things. They evolve over time, because each is a movement which offers a framework to achieve things within it's boundaries. As time passes, more needs to be achieved within the realm. This is because people wish to keep the movement alive, wish to keep the achievements so far, there are people who wish to exploit the existing framework, and because politicians or politician alike activists(the intellectual inner group) need to keep the movement alive for personal reasons. Okay? So, assume the world went full leftist. Or nazi. In either case the core ideology keeps evolving, to sum it up, because people in power need to promise new things to their followers to stay in power. It just happens as the product of democracy, because they need to "sell" the same product to the same customer base and try to get more customers.

SO. With this in mind. Understand that ideologies keep getting more extreme over time. This means that eventually an ideology narrows. There are only so many things you can offer "all" of the people before you need to start catering more specific things. And as time goes on, this becomes the norm. And through iterations the interest group narrows. It forms a sort of "mountain peak" over time.

In a democracy there exists a natural death of ideologies, assuming democracy isn't destroyed by an ideology. Which is the general opinion changing.
