I think in the build up of the land grab by Russia, Ukraine was cosying up to Europe and putting in standards that excluded Russia and Russian influence such as not teaching Russian in schools in Ukraine and not using Russian on Ukrainian TV shows etc.I think small actions like this against Russia was what ultimately forced Russia to do something desperate, worrying they would lose more and more economic power over the EU.The invasion was wrong on so many fronts and shows a lack consideration for what's best for the Ukrainian people as well as being an international war crime but who could blame them? The international response to Crimea was lacklustre, it set the precedent that Russia could just send troops into an area and "peacefully" take another countries land.The war currently is also heavily influenced by economic factors. The economy was looking to pop again, having inflated over time and these wars came just in time to ease the financial decline of a recession. Countries a profiting off the war and while Europe can't condone an outright war against Russia (which would be devastating to both regions) it can profit from war activities in the area. Russia is smart. Russia will never attack a NATO country knowing full well that NATO is poised to respond to any Russian aggression I just think it's funny that when dealing with a country willing to break international law, Europe is not willing to do the same.Putin needs to deeply consider how many more people/undesirables he can send into the meat grinder and what it is worth on an international stage. The war is good for everyone but the Ukrainians.PEACE needs to prevail.
