RIGHT?!politically
Putting new pads on isn't fixing. And of course I do the maintenance on my vehicle.
>>24698932do you do anything other than waste time on that rusting shitheap? buy a vw go or something.
>>24698932I have done in the past. My time is worth more these days.
Best I can do is change a tire. For anything more complicated or dirty, lower class wagies are there for a reason.
>>24698932You want car fags to get uppity about your paint?Or are you just an austistic klompenkopf who is most proud to own an automobile?
>>24698934Based american saying it how it isCan we be more honest to eachother? This is way this basket weaving forum is so great, people speaking truth. Who gives a fuck about lies
>>24698936>lower class wagieskek. mechanics do great. they have an essential skill, never gonna be replaced by AI, and can give cash discounts to simply pocket the money instead of being a taxcattle. if you have those skills and toil for someone else as an hourly, then yeah youre a low class fucking retard
>>24698932I wonder how difficult it might be on a 2026 car
>>24698940You need a computer and a secret dealer password to even open the hood
>>24698937Its called patina by the hipstersoys i thinkIts a bit stuck thoughbeit
>>24698942Remember the center hub threads on the left side on some cars are backwards (left tightening)
I mean, I COULD, I just kinda... can't be bothered with it?...
>>24698935Exactly. I'm going to be 40 soon enough. I have too many responsibilities at this age to go fucking around. Knowing how to identify problems and diagnose them saves you enough money.
>>24698939Yes they will.
>>24698932I never had a car so no
>>24698947Hans, i mean come on, you’re europes car backbone, can you atleast invest in europe by buying a german car? They’re way cheaper in germany than holland too
>>24698932Brembo aftermarket parts are shit. Why don't you buy ATE like a real human being? Kanker mongo
>>24698932I cant :( My wifi connection is down and I did not update to the latest version so I just get an error message! *unable to connect, please call toll free customer service line or take to the nearest dealership*
>>24698948They're still way to expensive, "Volkswagen" my ass, there's nothing under 30-35k in stock. I used to drive my dad's 190E Mercedes, which I loved alas it's gone now, I'll never ride a car this smooth again
>>24698951besides, I hate electric cars, fuck that noise
>>24698945>Knowing how to identify problems and diagnose them saves you enough money.Mechanic here. No, it doesn't. If your car needs new brake pads, we charge you the same amount whether you came in and told us it needs brake pads, or just said "it's making a noise when I brake". We always do a full diagnostic/inspection on any system where we expect an issue might be found, because we're not stupid enough to trust every idiot that walks through our doors to know what is actually wrong with their car.If for some reason you DO go to some weird mechanic that does less work and charges you less because they only do the thing you told them to do when you came in the door, then your mechanic is really fucking shitty and I wouldn't trust them to know how to even change brake pads, let alone diagnose them.
>>24698951Im eyeing a 2015 passat 1.4. The engine is supergay and small but has 250nm with the turbo so low rpm highway driving. Before 2015 they had pistonring problems and oil useage with that. I wont buy ev eitherThe good thing about passat is they are zinked body and very good paint against rust. Engines i can fix, bodywork sucks dick
>>24698932thats easy as fuck to do, not a flex
>>24698955O i aint flexin’ but its on there thoughbeit. Now the othersideI guess its more of a motivational thread, for gooners and low lives to do these easy jobs wich make you feel good if they’re done
>>24698932brake pads are easy. when i upgraded my calipers, buying all the fluid and stuff really made me consider if im wasting my time (yes)
>>24698936Yeah, I'm not interested in having my car leak fluids because some Ukranian not to not tightening the plugs...
>>24698932I have a buddy who owns a car repair workshop. Whenever I need to do maintenance or change the tires, he lets me use his facilities and teaches me how to do it. I havent done brakes yet, tho.
>>24698959Thats great to learn
>>24698936Enjoy having your job taken by a robot that can do it twenty times better than you while tradesmen continue to become wealthier and have minimal risk to their professions for the foreseeable future.I live in a fairly wealthy neighborhood, a new one just went up on the outskirts. Houses going for 2 million or so, small city. Trucks and trailers on every street.
Anyone else find it hilarious that the eggheads of the past assumed that skilled manual labor would be replaced by Ai/robotics before data management positions? It's a pretty fucking retarded line of logic.>Hmmmm what will be easier, creating a computer/device that can automate tasks within its own operating system or creating a device that can perform skilled manual labor in the real world? It's almost like they were retarded the whole time
Just changing the pads? Sure.Anything else? My mechanic guarantees his work, and he's thorough. Why would I want to fuck around with lines and calipers when he's going to do a great job in a quarter of the time and eat the cost completely if it's not right?
>>24698956You got Bantz'd
>>24698932It's basic fucking maintenance. Do you brag about boiling water, too?
>>24698932what year and model anon? I got an old 2007 I keep running and picked up an 92 lincoln town car to fix up. cozy those old grandma cars were in the 90s.
>>24698934toyota is what vw always wanted to be but failed
i kinda don't give fuck about anything anonthat's why i am herehttps://youtu.be/j8mlzzHfkNI
>>24698951I had an old Volkswagen Mk3 (a 98 Cabrio) and it had the most convoluted drum brakes I have ever come across. Actually everything on that car was shit, the thermostat was the lowest part of the cooling system in a tucked in spot, the shifting was a mess that included quite a few fragile plastic parts and the reverse shifting was a simple idler gear that took heavy abuse every time you backed up and eventually disintegrated. The whole thing was a nightmare and I'll never buy a VW again.
