I quit playing video games like 5 years ago and I haven't particularly missed it because it was paying to have someone shit down your throat by the time I bowed out. I can't imagine what it's like now.Hypercapitalism is a runaway freight train at this point. Institutional inertia and the tech shift of the past 20 years has resulted in captured institutions and monopolies that have captured them are fairly blatant about it. The current model of licensing and monthly fees, was proven in the video game market. Subscriptions existed long before, yes. But video games showed you could nickel and dime people for nothing. The success of the microtransaction in video games is unironically what birthed the current economic model corporations use to squeeze us for every last dollar.
