And lots of them, passing right below us. (HAL-1 PLT) How many? (HAL-1 CO-PLT) Undetermined. Gonna ping the Spear and see what they've got for us. >A quick back and forth between the lead flyer and its mothership soon enough revealed that an entire damn squadrons worth of old propeller aeroplanes had bypassed them form right underneath their noses! The Spear's sensor tech would confirm that there were 20 hard contacts now buzzing about the gulag on attack runs against itself and the Zoid! >Cursing to himself, the lead flyer keyed his comms. (HAL-1 PLT) All units! Swing back around and prepare to reengage those bogies! >The black wings would oblige, although with how far out they were, it would take a minute/1 turn to get back there to help the Spear. >Although in all likelihood, the advanced warship would be up to the task. Captain Leon had to admit, he somewhat admired the bravery and ingenuity of these Red flyers. Although it wouldn't stop him from taking the bastards out and putting a stop to their flying circus. (CPT LEO) Take out those fighters! Prioritize the ones attacking us. >With the Zoid too busy to run anti-air this time, it was on Spear to do so. Of the 14 Yaks of undetermined model, the first 10 would find to their (possible confusion) that the UNSC vessel was equipped with energy shields. Their 20 mm cannons caused blue-colored ripples to appear where they struck, the shields holding fast for now against the "light" strikes. >Naturally, they were swift to retaliate in turn, various hull turrets swiveling to face them first. The 10 fighters came under fire from M710 Bulwark medium cannons AND M870 Rampart 50 mm coilguns, all capable of swatting missiles out of the sky with their advanced tracking abilities and even disrupting Covie plasma torpedoes of yesteryear. >The 4 other Yaks that were decoys for their mates would get 8 Streak anti-fighter missiles sent their way. 2 for each fighter. >The other 6 remaining airplanes would likewise get a double-serving of missiles, 12 Streaks ALSO being belted out to try and hit them. >Captain Leon also held off on deploying ground troops for now until the air was clear. Not One Step Back indeed... >The UNSC and its people would meet them there then, these three leathernecks still doing their best. >The rocket launcher armed passenger missed his shot, the man shaking his head in frustration as he speedily reloaded his spent tubes as he shouted to the Zoid pilot. (MRN #2) Tell me about! >Then came a "curveball" in the form of a frag, the explosive landing beneath the rolling 'Hog as the troopers ALSO came under fire! Literally in the case of the Flamethrower unit, two surviving Rifle infantry mag dumping into their moving targets as well! >The corporal driving the titanium tub swore as he tried his best to avoid getting himself and his men killed, but it was a tough task to say the least as the grenade and firepower... 0-3: Totally upended the Warthog, Marine Three getting killed outright from the crash while Two and One were seriously harmed from the flamethrower and gunfire! 4-6: Threw the 'Hog off course but barely managing to hang on. Marine Three however would be set on fire and forced to jump off in a desperate bid to put out the flames in the snow while Two and One sustained moderate injuries from the Riflers rounds! 7-9: Largely missed the speedy space jeep, although Three would be peppered with shrapnel as Two and One also took some damage along with their by now much abused ride. >Whatever the case may be, hopefully the rampaging Zoid would be up to the task at hand to finish those four Ruskies off! It was barely intact by now as it crashed upside down in the snow and slid for several yards, but that was hardly the worst of it. >Marine Three flew through the air with a scream that was only cut off when he hit the frosty ground with a sickening crunch, the man's life coming to an end then and there... >As for the other Marines, they had barely survived said crash, trying to extract themselves from the wrecked car as they came under fire from the other three Russians. They caught rounds and fire in equal measure, Two and One getting shot several times with shouts, their armors (barely) saving them at this point as the Flamethrower unit forced them to take cover with the Warthog. >Wounded but still able to somewhat fight, they couldn't do more than offer return and suppressive fire with an MA5C assault rifle and M41 rocket launcher. Although in the latter case, not having much time or room to take proper aim, accuracy *would* be compromised to say the least as he fired off *a* single warhead...>Over the din, one of the troopers shouted at the Zoid. With the last of their snow dripping from their wing tips in a mist, the starship's engaging flight quickly found their attacks bouncing off their quarry's hull to no effect."Dazhe ne veritsya, molecular resonating... How did they get access to this!?">Perhaps surprisingly, a few pilots even had an inkling of an idea on how the Tip of the Spear was shielding herself from their hail, moments before the arm descended upon them to consume their thoughts. >(Last two digits of this post determine the amount of Yaks shot down by each battery. Any extra shots go toward striking the decoys.)>The feinting Yaks knew their time was spent and attempted to lead the missiles into the starship's own shield system with a crazy dive toward the upper hull in an attempt to cover for their cohort, taking advantage of their close proximity to the ship as those scythes of the reaper steered his way!>Any of the flight that survived the initial brush would attempt to disengage!>>24810219>Meanwhile, the Gun Sniper was able to jump out of its harriers' line-of-effect through a single movement, leaving their shots uselessly churning up the courtyard as they considered withdrawing the theatre to alert air command of what was actually transpiring in the facility, gauging that their current tools were inadequate for the task of relief.(1/???)

Things would also get worse for them even as they tried to bug out however, the sensor officer relaying to her captain. (ENS PTR) Sir, enemy fighters are fleeing the theater. (CPT LEO) Noted. >Using his neural lace, the skipper contacted Halberd-1. (CPT LEO) Halberd-1, I want you and the rest of your squadron to pursue and destroy those fighters. Four groups divvied up to fly North, South, East, and West. >>24811914oohh nope sure didn't. i remember this having a good single player campaign. think it was the first game that let you change everything about your weapons to include things like the style of trigger group you preferred.>>24811921i like the people typing and clicking post and the games. the movie is enjoyable but they didn't do Heinlein's writing or setting any justice in the slightest. >It’s better after you unload. Until you do, you sit there in total darkness, wrapped like a mummy against the acceleration, barely able to breathe—and knowing that there is just nitrogen around you in the capsule even if you could get your helmet open, which you can’t—and knowing that the capsule is surrounded by the firing tube anyhow and if the ship gets hit before they fire you, you haven’t got a prayer, you’ll just die there, unable to move, helpless. It’s that endless wait in the dark that causes the shakes—thinking that they’ve forgotten you . . . the ship has been hulled and stayed in orbit, dead, and soon you’ll buy it, too, unable to move, choking. Or it’s a crash orbit and you’ll buy it that way, if you don’t roast on the way down.

>>24812005>Yee, same. Glad you're still with us too. >And yeah, I know Verhoeven opted to go with the more satirical route for the film. They at least share the same fear of dying during planetary reentry with their drop pods. Reminds me of an excerpt in The Flood where one poor Helljumper dies during a drop from the Pillar of Autumn onto the Halo ring. They call it "digging your own grave". >You ever read any of the Halo books yourself as another aside? >>24812030>Yep lol. Again, Verhoeven went for his own pisstake on the Troopers as it were. Still was a nice film in its own way of course.>I hope I can read some soon myself. Maybe give The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress a shot in addition to Starship Troopers.

Beyond that and a brief maze of chain link barriers that lay compromised from the aftermath of their skirmish, the damaged courtyard stood host to an external control tower that was effectively abandoned built against the walls, a partially-intact helipad, and the keep converted into entry into the underworld, reinforced by a thick metal blast door that lay firmly secured.>HUDs picked up no imminent activity within their immediate surroundings on the approach, not within a fifty yard radius either inside or outside the walls either level or above the ground.>Those who weren't wearing any environmental filter would be able to pick up the scent of burning gasoline from the ruined defensive infrastructure. >>24812030entirely. it's a shame the movie overshadowed the book as much as it did.im not gonna ride heinlein like he's the greatest thing ever (but) the way describes the technology strikes chords>>24812081Mobile Infantry are sort of a cross between Spartans and ODSTs. There's an excerpt in the book that describes 2-3 miles between individual troopers is considered a tight formation, because the firepower each trooper had on his suit was staggering. we're talking things like tactical nukes affixed to a suit that can jump around at fighter jet speeds. anyway im fuckin rambling.all the cool shit happens in the books from what ive heard. the stuff that makes you appreciate ODSTs and Spartans more. Ive seen them on the shelves but for one reason or another, never picked em up.
>>24812285>Ay, I know that much that the MI is pretty damn potent. There are good reasons why they set the standard for what it meant to be a space trooper and power armor at that too.
