Focusing and putting a loss of emphasis and value on the nuclear family unit is a very conservative idea, and it can backfire at like any time. People disagree or argue very easily and go there separate ways all the time whether or not they're family. It's very capitalist to think we are just these singular atomized individuals that are completely separate and alone in the world. It just seems caveman-esque to me. But then it's hard not to be a little prehistoric because I imagine the masses congregating together in modern times to be some horrible scenario out of The Brave New World or something. Everyone on some type of drug, in homogenous clothing all pretending to be happy. We are forced to interact and deal with each other just to get through the world though as well, so it's kind of ignorant to think that your ability to get along with others doesn't interfere with other aspects of your life at all. For example, I used to think that being technically proficient was enough to gain at least some inkling of favor or interest as an artist, but it appears to me now that I am just basically excluded from society in general and my art may never be accepted. I could go to excruciating lengths to adhere to external standards of what is popular and mainstream but it would be soul crushing for me. I used to think people liked rebels, but they don't really at all anymore.
people still "rebel" now a days, but it is mostly in their own self-created nihilist and apathy and tread on being kind of satanic or something, which I don't really know if that's really rebelling exactly.
