Antarctica used to be a tropical region back when Pangea was separated by the massive mountain chain that spanned all the land at the equator. Most of equatorial & southern Pangea was uninhabitable desert devoid of life, then once you got south of that you had basically the rainforest. That's Antarctica today. Also there's no doubt there are unknown and long-extinct species beneath and in the ice as well.
