The oldest surviving architectural style here is the one found in medieval water castles. The country used to be full of them. These castles were built by lower noblemen near rivers in order to control trade and make money from tolls, and then typically had moats dug around them for extra protection. Centuries later a lot of them had star fortresses added.

>>24910349That's a more complex issue, because those farms are regional, not national. That one is most common near the Belgian border. If you go east, you'll find more Saxon farmhouse types. If you go further north, you'll find more farmhouses with a small house at the front and a much larger barn at the back. If you go further west, you'll find stolps, square farmhouses with a pyramidal roof and separate barns.
