As an autistic person, I think neurodivergent people (meaning, people with mental disorders like autism, ADHD, schizophrenia, and others) can be fine when they're relatively well-socialized, since they get feedback from others on how to behave well, and eventually learn to laugh at other people's jokes, learn to express sadness when it's socially acceptable, and know when it's appropriate to make lewd or sarcastic comments. In a way, their behavioral quirks are like dust in a room with an air purifier.However, when you shut a bunch of neurodivergent people into a small community (4chan, Reddit, Discord, etc.), their quirks become persistent habits and get amplified by a community that rewards such quirks. Instead of supporting each other by telling each other how to behave properly, they act in ways that just attract each others' attention, which more often than not comes at a risk for themselves and for others' wellbeing.If you stay away from "normalfags", eventually you make it impossible for you to fit back in with "normalfags".Going back to the air purifier analogy, an air purifier in a dusty, poorly ventilated room will eventually become so dusty that its filter will get clogged up with dust and pieces of hair, rendering it useless.When air purifier filters get dirty, you can either wash them (if they're not too dirty) or just replace them (if they already got stains that can't be removed).
