Indian in Japan here.After years of work, taxes, paperwork and wondering whether the rules would change halfway through, I finally got permanent residency.The part nobody warned me about is how different it feels once your immigration status is no longer hanging over your job.I can quit tomorrow. Change industries. Take a year off. Start a business. My employer has basically lost the one piece of leverage that always sat in the background.And this is why I think /pol/ has Japan wrong.People keep repeating that Japan will “never become an immigration country,” while foreigners are quietly putting down roots, getting PR, raising families and eventually naturalizing.No dramatic announcement. No “replacement” headline. Just paperwork, one applicant at a time.Maybe Japan isn't changing.Maybe the people insisting it can't change just haven't noticed yet.Next stop: citizenship.
