There's a star in our galaxy that is dangerously close to becoming a black hole. Its name is PSR J0952-0607, and it is one of the most extreme objects ever discovered. This neutron star spins an incredible 707 times per second, making it one of the fastest-spinning stars known to science. But speed is not what makes it dangerous. The real problem is its mass.Scientists estimate that it contains nearly 2.4 times the mass of our Sun, packed into a sphere only about 20 kilometers wide. Even more incredible, it is still stealing material from a nearby companion star, slowly becoming heavier over time. If it gains just a little more mass, gravity could finally win, causing the star to collapse into a black hole.
