Went to Thailand in March with two White friends. Spent most of the time in Pattaya. I’m light skinned brown so the difference in how locals treated us was impossible to miss. Locals put Whites on a pedestal hard. Old White guys walking around with girls half their age get treated like royalty. It’s not even subtle. Streets with massage parlors were the worst. Girls would call out and catcall my two friends constantly. I was standing right next to them and got ignored. Same thing with shopkeepers and random street girls we tried talking to. They’d look past me or act like I wasn’t there, then suddenly become friendly the second one of the White guys spoke. Some people were fine with me. Most gave this quiet dismissive energy because i wasn't WHITE. Watched the same thing happen to Indian tourists too. A lot of cold, impatient treatment so this wasn't JUST me.
