There is a lot of private equity that has entered this industry since COVID, the mom and pop indepedently owned sites are being bought up 5-6 at a time by ColorNature Management Corp (Silver Lake, Blue Mountain, you get what I mean, stereotypical shit like that). Sometimes they do good work and turn a lump of coal into a diamond, but most times they repaint the interiors, switch it to a skilled nursing center instead of assisted living for those sweet government bucks and then run skeleton crews. Truly shitty places. To make money in senior living you either go high end, $9000/month kind of places with sushi, wine, etc. or you go very low end skilled nursing. The middle ground is unfortunately going to suffer the most going forwardSo, go work for one of those companies or get together with six of your friends and start your own. Or, work for/start a company that sells into those places. Flooring, food, activities, furniture, tech, etc. etc. Get a big contract with 2-3 large 30+ community groups and go from theret. industry insider
my father was at one of these places for physical therapy and ended up dying there. he started showing neurological issues, like hallucinations, not understanding where he was etc. they had a neurologist “on staff” supposedly. told them he needed to see the neurologist because of all of this behavior. added him to a list. never got to see anyone because their in-house doctors aren’t actually in-house. they work at like 10 different nursing homes/rehab places and are basically never there
