The whole subject talks about how people get treated different based on gender, race, class, and identity. It ain’t just about “men versus women.” Nah, it’s deeper than that. It’s about power, who got it, and who keeps the system running like a broken carnival ride .Back in the day, society pushed these roles heavy. Dudes supposed to be tough, work jobs, never cry. Girls supposed to stay pretty, quiet, cook food, and smile through suffering like customer service employees on minimum wage . Gender studies basically walks into the room and says, “Yo, who invented these goofy rules?” That’s where people start talking about gender as a social construct. Meaning society made a lot of these expectations up over time and everybody just downloaded the update without reading the terms and conditions .Another big thing in gender studies is intersectionality. Big word, simple meaning. Different struggles stack together like bad Wi-Fi connections. Somebody can face problems because of gender, race, money, or all three at once. The system don’t hit everybody equally. Some people start life on easy mode while others spawn into expert difficulty with no tutorial .Media also catches strays in this class because movies, ads, music, and social media keep pushing stereotypes 24/7. Folks grow up seeing the same roles repeated until they think it’s “normal.” Gender studies tries to challenge those dominant narratives and make people question why society moves the way it does.At the end of the day, the class teaches that identity, power, and culture all connected. Also teaches students how capitalism be profiting off stereotypes while everybody else just trying to survive and pay rent .
