Is sending money to a jail inmate's account for commissary a good investment? It's an old friend of mine down on his luck (and decisions), can only get a public defender.

He's probably going to prison for years, I can't afford to drop the bag for a good lawyer to help him since it could be a neverending money sink. absolutely, a lot of my friends I smoked with as a teenager ended up on the wrong path to varying degrees, fortunately I always got good grades and made it out but having friends in low places is never a bad thing unless you are running for office (even then). Any time you need help outside the law, like say someone is messing with your family, or vandalizing your business, or squatting in your house or something; you know who it is but the cops can't or won't do anything about it; well, street justice is one phone call away. At worst you have a connect for party drugs if you ever need it. These kinds of guys tend to be real as fuck too, good heart, very loyal, just maybe not that smart or able to stay out of trouble. Don't expect anything out of it, you're not trying to take advantage of him, that would be a shitty thing to do, but usually these gangster and criminal types are big on day 1s and honor and remember who helped them out when they were at their lowest.
