The answer is to have a single raspberry pi on which you run sshd and git. Financially speaking.

Seriously, developers hate working with Gitlab. It's slow as fuck, bloated and has way too many bells and whistles that no one cares about. It's also going to be AI rotten.

But yeah, in general "git forges" were a mistake. At most use gitea.
