Is indie game development an effective get rich quick scheme?Anyone have any experience with this?
>>62306741yes. its highly effective. people are sick of the AAA slop. Indie over took it during covid. Its why those AAA studio do remakes now and reboots just to break even on their woke propoganda slop
You won't get rich and it won't be quick.
>>62306741Yes. Game dev is hard, and it's hard to make a good popular indie game. But once you figure it out and find your audience, its easy sailing from there. Agree with anon above, everybody is sick of woke propaganda slop.
>>62306741yep just make another hollow knight, pretty simple honestly
>>62306741Yes everyone is desperate for another poorly made cash grab game to be disappointed by
>>62306741Pro gamedev here, absolutely fucking not. There are like 1000 games launching on steam every day and it only increases every year. And this will accelerate way faster now that ai exists. You grind for a year and then your entire life hinges on the five minutes when you're on page 1 of the steam new releases section.imo, only go for it if you have a very underserved market pre-identified, or you can deliver something as good as Hollow Knight or Expedition 33.
One more bit of advice from Mr. Spiderweb Software: Fortnite is free. Rocket League is free. Roblox is free. FFXIV Shadowbringers, arguably the greatest jrpg of multiple console generations, is now free. Can your game compete with that? Is it good enough, unique enough, in high demand enough? If not, you're not going to make it.
You might be able to make a quick buck with asset flipped streamer bait friendslop games, if you can get enough streamers interested in them to go viral. It won't be a sustained income stream, but you'll have 2-3 weeks of high sales of some game you spent ~100 hours to vibecode together and are selling for $10 a pop.Think shit like Supermarket Together, A Game About Digging a Hole, Cheese Rolling, Mage Arena, just absolute sloppa like that. As long as it's quirky and ideally multiplayer and functions long enough to fill a ~3 hour stream then it could catch on and go viral.
>>62306741Within 24 months people will just ask claude to make them a game that will perfectly suit their preferences and it will scan their brains via neuralink and build it for them in 5 minutes. Nobody will play the game you made because they will be busy playing the game they made instead.
>>62306741ya just make space marine 3 and youre good
>>62306741Nah it's a waste of time. You're better off doing odd jobs fixing shit in widow's houses. Plus you could probably get some pussy in the process. Indie devs gotta invest thousands of hours so that their game can sell 5000 copies and get canceled for having a bad opinion on reddit 10 years ago. Speaking from experience.
Not to mention that gamers are the most no-lifing miserable, implacable demographic in existence. They will play your game for 1,000+ hours and then leave a negative review for fixing a bug.
>>62306741just make a troonslop game like 99% of successful indie games
nigger, i wont by an indie game unless its at LEAST 50% off.
>>62306741You have to have serious talent and have a team of people with serious talent to make a good game. If you are project lead aka boss you will have to pay your workers a salary or negotiate a salary or profit share or both. Will cost hundreds of thousands but the returns could be millions, make a $10 game for example and 1 million units sold, that is 10 million dollars
Indie is Private Equity forma de /v/. It exists as the risk option for companies that can handle risk, as opposed to safer public companies. The gamble is that when they hit a gem, it'll be the next Terraria or Stardew Valley or Undertale, one of those generational games. If they try to go public, they will shit themselves; See Devolver Digital Studios (#DEVO.L)
>>62306981>>62307723I don't know if OP is a real person, but curious to hear more.It amazes me that small professional studios, who have had a couple of successful games and produce high quality work, are shutting down anyway, because they cannot maintain the cost of existing. That leaves successful one/two-man-team indies, who can go on almost indefinitely. And even they have been complaining, that profits are just not the same in comparison to the years before Covid. How are things in 2026?
>>62306741>s indie game development an effective get rich quick scheme?no
>>62307004Nigger please. Öoo ( that is Not a Typo)Costs 10 bucks and Made a million gross.Shelldiver, 5 bucks, Made a million.Etc etcYes, Indie Games can compete.
Do you have the skills to make a profitable game?
>>62306741>tard valleyi'd play this
