>>62328213Even if copper has more utility for industry, that doesn't mean it will somehow outperform gold in the long term for multiple reasons:- gold is directly bought by central banks, investors and retail for jewellery, providing a huge number of marginal buyers.- industrial metals are often incentivised by government to stay cheap. Governments subsidise miners specifically for this purpose to ensure goods remain cheap. That's why miner stocks of industrial metals often go nowhere fast and why they often need bailing out or subsidising (if the price goes up too much governments step in to boost the output). - copper can be easily recycled and it is far more abundant than gold.- gold cannot be replaced in situations where tarnishing might ocur and cause increase in resistance, such as exposed connectors. It's often found in higher end equipment.- high copper prices would stall the economy since consumers would eventually stop buying the goods containing it until supply caught up with demand.

Silver is actually better than copper for almost every electrical application where copper is used. Silver is just prohibitively expensive. Electric motors with silver coils instead of copper are higher performance.
