This sort of thing is pretty common in cities in UK/Europe, at least the ones with really fucked housing markets (all of them). Most people in their 20s don't have much choice. I dated a girl who lived in a shared flat where the landlord had put a literal plywood wall through the middle of the room to turn it into two rooms. The wall would shake when you closed the door. And you had to climb into the bed from the foot of the bed because there wasn't enough space to go round the side. This was 10 years ago, I bet it's much worse now. Back then it was normal for white people to live like that, now you also have to share with millions of third worlders.
