i spent 4 years at school studying computer science and 3 years working at big tech and finance compnies. it was fun in uni but i hate it now, nobody cares about the quality of work, we have to participate in retarded rituals like retros, meetings about meetings, standups. my work has been either not important, or not at the very least, not ethical. its all fake and gay, including my coworkers, i love technical details and programming minutia but i cant stand the kind of people that software attracts. everything is about KPIs and quarterly goals, PMs create work just for the sake of work, etc.

im thinking of a change in careers, what kind of /biz/ approved long term skills will remain in-demand? before i even think about starting my own biz i need to have some sort of skills that are worth something, and the ones I already have are slowly becoming less valuable with every claude release. it seems industrial electrians are in demand? any other suggestions? thanks for reading my blog

Thank you for the trades propaganda, I'm sure many anons will ruin their lives, like when learn to code became as prevalent as this is now, right before the total annihilation.
On the off chance that a human clicks on this thread: There are no "skills" anymore. You must learn to take from others without having skills.

it doesn't have to be trades I literally don't care as long as my work is purposeful and i can live a comfortable life

In a similar situation but for more years. I'm thinking of becoming a marine biologist and then buying a boat. What do you think ?

I am searching. I know that you need an anti AI moat to escape commoditization. That moat can consist of a strong lobby, agility of your business, or physical barriers like well positioned land.
A friend is a psychotherapist who is licensed by the government to use drugs in sessions. Law states that a certified psychotherapist like him needs to be present. So no AI, ever. But other psychotherapists might flood that market when they are replaced by AI with better emotional range and empathy than humans (circa 2028). If they manage to make this the de facto standard of life help, it might not even impact their income.

Yeh I fell for the career you enjoy meme too. Just take the path of least resistance and earn as much as you can. Save energy for your life outwide work.

im not naive and understand all jobs have their individual downsides, but im not sure my job will even exist in 5 years. i guess having my own business or independence would be cool, but im pretty sure you need some useful skills and capital first
>>

My guess is blue collar job.

Im in a similar boat, I have studied a lot about programing and now I feel this skill will be useless but not because I'm a bad programmer. Things will get much worse before getting good.

Similar experince to you but with more years of experience. What I've done instead of switching careers what is joining a no BS team in a no BS company. That mean that we barely do meetings, only the standup and one to one calls to discuss solutions. Moreover, I do part time now, around 30 hours a week. With a senior dev salary 2/3s of it is more than enough to live comfortably. Good luck!

Stop thinking of skills. AI has these skills by the time you got them. Altman and Musk don't have skills, yet they rule the world.

I'm thinking about becoming a farrier and moving to the bum fuck middle of nowhere.

>it seems industrial electrians are in demand?
As an industrial electrician I can say that we really are in demand once you get your foot in the door. Payrange is from shit to so-so, forget those $500k/y comfy swe jobs. The only reason I stay is because it's 15 minutes away from my home, they do my dividend taxes and I can spend entire shift rummaging through 4chan in my office. The field feel pretty well gatekept and lobbied, so third worlders have it harder to get into this field and AI is too far away. I occasionally think of moving to EV maintanance, I am kind of interested of this field. But why won't you stay in your field? Just create patreon and start making sex mods for skyrim or the sims4. Or maybe some p2w mobile game to scam SEAniggers? Idk man, would I be in your shoes I'd just stay in your current job if you are at the very least paid well while trying to enjoy my free time as much as possible. And once you start enjoying your life more you'll find out what you need on your own. And btw, start remebering your dream. Normies cannot wrap their heads around this, but the amount of actually good ideas that came to me in my dreams is almost scary.

Just keep going with SWE as long as you can and try to cultivate interests and skills that could blossom into something else along the way. I know we're staring down the barrel of AI but still a ways out from being obsolete. Who cares if your work isn't being taken seriously and you have to do these weird rituals - as long as you're getting paid well and get to sit on a PC then it's fine.

My DEI ass knows that word. That's a perv who fondles the feet of horses. Go do it. Horses are for rich people , so it's going to moon in the K shaped economy. But don't forget to get into some horse service that has tools that are too expensive to buy & own personally, so that people don't replace you with a home robot skill in 2032.

>PMs create work just for the sake of work

Would you rather be unemployed?
>>
>>62350104
>not sure my job will even exist in 5 years.

Same but I decided not to care about it. I stay on this train until the final stop. We don't know what happens tomorrow and death comes to us all

>Altman and Musk don't have skills, yet they rule the world.
Im going to assume anon wasnt born into wealth or influence
>>
>>62350008
Anon my current situation is good so I will tell you. I'm a game programmer at a mid sized Japanese company. It's not the best pay but I can put some money into shitcoins every month and enjoy life, and the work is also fun. And the best part is that firing employees in Japan is damn near freaking impossible legally, so they can't replace me with AI until we're literally getting paperclipped to death. Life is good.
>>
>>62350008
Yeah I agree big corporate tech life is gay and not fun, but I don’t have a better way of making 300k a year so I need to keep doing this until they fire me
>>
>>62351687
Japan as a state will collapse soon and you will be unemployed...

Be a middleman to a physical commodities store like tile or mortar to the internet. I know a guy who basically runs a homepage but is making the store sell 100% more thanks to google advertising. He's basically a sales representative from google. Took one class online to learn their tools and buy prompts or something from google buying high hitting words for his employer in search results. Should be real easy for you and your employer will love you.
