Peaked out at $90/hr in my late 30s. Now down to $45/hr but 100% WFH and I paid cash for my comfy 6 bedroom house where I live with my wife and 4 kids (3 sons).

I'm ashamed of myself for responding to this, but here I am.
Before tax makes a lot more sense, I think.
When you account for my sizeable annual bonus, what I'll pay/receive next April, size of 401k and IRA conts, health insurance, impacts to my marginal rate due to buying and selling stocks, what I actually take home wouldn't be apples to apples with anything.
Regular takehome pay amounts are probably only useful for people who make much less.

I actually don't. My taxes change every quarter depending on how good the corporate profit sharing bonus was and part of the pay gets deffered for the ESPP as well.
