They don't realise that when you have that large of a stake, there are both legal (Securities and Exchange Commission) and volatility reasons you will never be able to sell all those shares on the open market. Which is why Elon when Elon needs serious money in a hurry, he has to get a loan from the bank with some of his shares as collateral - his shares aren't liquid in the way that the shares in your 401k are.
