Redpill me on chicken farming

>>62405791Another casualty of the eternal nimby. At this point nimbyism should be considered terrorism and their perpetrators should be forced to confess their many crimes in public
>>62405791The older I get, the more I realize that I hate animals. I'll stick to a vegetable and flower garden, thanks.
>>62405839Only browns hate animals
>>62405791Luv me eggsLuv me nuggets
>>62405859You're a limp-dicked nu male with fur babies and I'm whiter than you.My parents have a dog and I love it about 40% of the time. It's cute. It's fluffy. It's fun to play with. The rest of the time, it poops everywhere and you need to pick it up before it eats its own poop. It also tries to eat everything else it encounters. It barks at everything - the neighbors, delivery men, other dogs, the tv, and at nothing at all. It's potty trained but will still piss on the floor when it gets too excited, like when you take it for a walk. It rolls around in filth and tracks it inside the house. It needs to be bathed and groomed constantly. There's only two types of people who want pets. Suburban white women who think of them as toys or replacement children for their barren wombs and niggers who like mean dogs to make them look tougher.
>>62405791youd have to be a homosexual to make this kind of thread>redpill me>take me
>>62405798Imagine the smell
>>62405930Dogs are disgusting. Dont project that to other animals.
>>62405791The hardest thing is building the coop and stop using ai image slop. What happened to your meme folder? You don't own the cluck pepe image?
>>62405839Chickens are easier to raise than a dog. Like a single dude only needs like three. Six eggs a day if you feed them well. I think a cat is easier to raise but they have toxoplasmosis and make men gay.
>>62405791Chickens make noise all the time. They shit everywhere. (wait am I talking about talking about chickens or people from India? zing) They get sick, and you'll have to catch and treat each one manually. If one gets too sick to recover, you'll have to cull it to save the rest—you can't eat it. You'll have to manage their breeding and stop hens from going broody when it's inconvenient (most of the is really inconvenient you want them to lay eggs) You'll need to cull or trade rooster chicks with other raisers as soon as you spot them. You'll have to watch out for pigeons, wild birds, and rats that contaminate the feed. You might wake up to find a chicken (usually a chick) dead. Sometimes it's a cat, sometimes the weather, sometimes other chickens bully the newborns, and sometimes you can't even figure out what happened. You may have to isolate a hen and her chicks in a cage for a month (cruel as it may sound) Most importantly, you'll need help occasionally from family or friends depending on your work schedule/gooning sessions. Pros: you'll have a lot of healthy eggs to eat and to share with family and friends. You may make some profits if you decide to sell some eggs at least to buy the feed depending on your autistic levels, Cons: it's a lot of work or at least stress. Shit everywhere. Some chickens may eat your crops if you have them
>>62406343As if any other animal is better>he fell for the cats are clean mythYour entire home smells like cat piss you just don't notice because you're used to it.
>>62405791If you have some land with flat grassy areas then it's ridiculously to use what's called a chicken tractor to easy to raise chickens for meat. You just position the tractor holding a couple dozen chickens in one place for a day, and for 2 months you move it along to the next square of grass once a day. The more land you have, the more tractors you can have. For reference if you had an area the size of a regular residential plot of land for a house then you could comfortably raise around 200-300 chickens at the same time.
>>62405791can be good if you have the land to do it. If not they can become a nuisance to the next door neighbors especially if there a rooster. That said eggs are a good resource
>>62405791Actual gain is made on volume - if you only have 3-4, you're not going to make enough even during peak egg laying periods to break even on the feed costs. They lay more reliably with feed, each chicken lays at their own rate. I've never seen a happy end to chickens, everyone I know has had gruesome stories of their hens dying.
>>62406566>Chickens make noise all the time. quiet compared to dogs goats turkeys>They shit everywhere. nothing compared to turkey diarrhea or dog shit
>>62405791i have been keeping chickens for awhile now, ask me anything you want to know.
>>62405791They're kind of retarded and smelly, but they're endearing.
>>62406726Joel Salatin's chicken tractors are way better. You can pack in 75 per tractor, rotate daily and eat in 6-8 weeks
>>62407330I'm sure you can optimize these things a lot for profit. I just know the basics from a family friend who does this twice a year with a single tractor so they have frozen birds to eat whole year round.
Joel Salatin, his book called pasture, poultry, profits…he says in the book his chicken tractors are designed specifically so don’t change the design…(everyone changes the design lol)
>>62407330>>62407838Chickshaw variant surrounded by electric poultry netting has been good so far and has let us get away with moving it less. (gotta rearrange fences though, so no free lunch) OP, know your zoning restrictions on number and type of animals before you do anything else. You will almost certainly need a rooster if you have more than 3 laying hens, because he will keep them from killing each other. Additionally males are the chickens that actually look around for threats to the flock. Older roosters will actually seek out the best foraging spots and call 'their' hens over to it. If a rooster will mount a hen while you're next to him, he doesn't think you're the alpha.>>62406566Disease among flocks seems to be a function of breed, living conditions, and feed quality. Heritage breeds commonly raised in your region are just genetically better adapted to the weather and parasite load and will see less attrition. Feed to slaughter weight ratio doesn't mean anything if you lose the bird. There's a lot to be said for the Salatin approach of spending more on cleaner feed and thereby saving tons on medical costs. Onions-free feeds are pricy and hard to source in some places, but fish meal is the primary protein in them. Ferment the feed a little if you can. Wet food is harder form them to dump all over the place, and it's more bio-available due to phytic acid breakdown. I've had Wyandotte chicks go from hatched to ready to be out of a chickshaw in under 3 weeks eating that way. If you're going to sell anything remember you cannot compete on price because you have no scale. You are selling a niche, high quality, Eco-conscious product, and you need to advertise and price like it.
