Because the hedonic treadmill is real.Money DOES improve overall happiness, but once you have enough money to buffer bad problems at least 6 months into the future adding more money doesn't really help. Sure you can inject more money into your life, consume luxuries and do more stuff, but the happiness benefit will be brief and you'll adjust to it til you feel just like you were before. Sooner or later you'll run into one of the many problems of life you can't solve with money and you'll feel just as unhappy because you're back at baseline.Get to middle class so you have room to breath and then start working on your mental and physical health.
