So I freshly graduated as a ME, and I applied to a job posting last friday, not expecting much since the position sounded too fantastic. This monday though, they sent me applicability tests (IQ + Personality test) that I did a lot better with than I thought I could. An hour from turning the tests in, I got a phone call and it was the company wanting to do a preliminary interview. They basically were pleased with my questions and answers during the call, and we even agreed about the salary I would receive. The next step is an interview on friday, which I assume is final. So everything looks pretty good, but is there any way that I could still fuck it up? I've been familiarizing myself with the specific work the position involves, and what the company is specialized on in general. Basically, should I temper my expectations?
Got any more Fresco memes? They’re my fav

>>62433153>should I temper my expectationsyes. they probably have several others they're interviewing (or have already interviewed). that said, if you really nail the in-person interview then you may well walk out of there with a start date.
>>62433153Interviews are like dates. You have to seem lightly into it, but not too too interested. Like you'd be fine either way. Maybe you'll take it, whatever, you don't care. Good luck to you, my fellow MEdiocrity. I wish you all the best. Make sure to not stay at your first job longer that 2 years, 3 if you really like it. And you want to make your way into controls engineering eventually. Get your state license if you can. If they have someone you can work under.
>>62435236This fits the profile I was constructing in my head for how to prepare for it. Thank you and all the best to you too.
>>62435478My personal rule, that's worked quite well for me, is to look at the interview as a game. You win by having them talk as much as possible, this means they're comfortable.People don't hire the best guy, they hire the one they could see themselves hanging out with for 8 hours a day, because that's what the job is. You're asking to be around them all day.One easy thing people fuck up, at the end they'll ask you if you have any questions. People get this wrong by asking about benefits or trying to sound smart, which the interviewer will likely not know, thus make him feel stupid. Instead, ask something genuine about what the company does that you don't know. "Is it true you guys hit 9 parsecs in the castle run?" etc. Let him brag at the end of the interview, people who have been at a company long enough to be a hiring manager are proud of the company.Good luck anon
>>62435629I intuited, that if I can talk in a way that imparts professional trust whenever they ask a question or ask if I have a question, I feel like that will be the way in. That said, when I interviewed for my internship and my thesis commissioner I did it effectively like you said, seeking more free interaction from the interviewer. I will pursue such a strategy again, I think, even though this is a higher grade of recruitment than I've been in before
>>62433153yeah you're in, they probably just need to match you with a team on friday. just don't be a complete shut-in and you'll be fine.
>>62435683Thank you anon. I want to believe in this because its in a really cool field (marine transport engineering ie. huge container ships and oil tankers) and in a huge company too which I feel has a high internal advancement potential. Its also by the sea which I would really like to just live by. All the best
>>62433153Careful anon, don't get emotionally invested until you have the offer. Do not imagine your future at the company. Just focus on the interview this Friday.
>>62435778I try not to get tunnel-vision, but I did pause sending out new open letters and applications since this happened. Still not the end of the world if this falls through, but would feel absolutely cash as fuck if I land it.
>>62435697>(marine transport engineering ie. huge container ships and oil tankers)So, designing and sustaining ships? You'll be designing pipes all day every day. You'll sit next to the guy who designs cables and the other guy who designs brackets. It's interesting the first time you do it, but not the five-thousandth time.>t. The guy who designs cables
