>Be me>29>worked at company for 4 years>Started off in IT operations>After 2 years reorg changed my role into a service management analyst>Doesn't really make sense but it will soon >"trust me bro" - manager (who's empire is collapsing)>doesn't work>2 years later new department director>Knows it's all BS and disempowers us to even do it>Now I have nothing to do at all>Now my manager scrambles for new work for us to do>Just comes up with new thing>Basically he's trying to justify his own existence because he's down to 5 staff, which is the minimum needed at this companyI'm extremely demoralised. Has this happened to anyone else? I don't even know what job I can get elsewhere because I've spent so long at this retarded company doing fake work hoping it would start to make sense and it never does
>>62436009I work in a factory, with no AC, lost all of my overtime and my shift has gone from 18 workers down to 7 (other 11 were laid-off or fired).
>>62436031Rough.
>>62436009get out right fucking now if you know what's good for you
if you haven't achieved a significant promotion (at least 40-50% salary increase) within 1-2 years of starting an entry level role (judging by the title this is an entry level role or close to it), you have been relegated to entry level hell and your salary adjusted for inflation will forever match what it was when you started, no matter how many lateral "promotions" they give you, until you're firedspeaking from experience as someone who has been promoted 4 times since starting an entry level role in 2020 and now managing the seniors that originally interviewed me
>>62436009ive seen this many times in corporate offices. this is why you change companies every 3 years max. not only for the salary increase, but the skill increase. using your instance for example. imagine day 1 you are dropped into a new company and they ask you to partition and encrypt a drive. on paper you have 4 years of experience. but could you do it?
>>62436037Oh, but my point in that response was, I've been doing the same factory wagie job for 15 years. Anytime I look at other jobs, they all pay less. Some even require a degree and pay less.I haven't gained any news skills (except economic, finance, psychology and philosophy education from listening to podcasts and reading for 8 - 12 hours a day, 5 days a week), which are useless at acquiring a job. I've been offered higher roles, but the pay is shit. They offered me.a 50 cent raise to become the shift manager. I laughed in their faces.
>>62436055Doesn't apply to me>>62436040Why? If they want to make me redundant they'd likely have to pay me about £20K because of the way my corporation is, and unions and employment legislation>>62436088Nope, I basically have no skills. Wasted my time here. You're right.
>>62436629>britYou should still apply for better jobs. Eventually your job will close your department and find a reason to fire you legally. The longer you wait the worse it will be.I recommend moving to the USA economic zone.
>>62436629you and your management chain are both useless. your skills are atrophying and you'll be let go inevitably, whether by being fired or laid off. at that point you won't have a job while you try to find the next job which makes it infinitely harder and more stressful
>>62436031I worked at a warehouse with no AC just huge cattle fans in the summer. They would prop the doors open and blow the hot air in. On the hottest day the fuckhead manager would make gatorade. The boss/managers/whore secretaries would sit in the offices all day on those hot ones never coming out to the floor.
>>62437195Ours do the same thing. In our meeting they were like. We know it's 95 degrees in the factory and the dew point is 73, so we're giving you guys an extra 5 minutes of break time to cool off!No, I'll take breaks whenever I want, retard.
>>62437195>>62437377Oh, and someone was already taken away by an ambulance yesterday because they passed out from heat exhaustion.
>>62436629Sounds like you're unironically in a position that is kept around solely for an incoming executive to look good by cutting staffing costs. Similar to those retarded women everyone makes fun of at tech companies that get laid off every 6-18 months. That's you right now. Enjoy getting paid for doing nothing for a while and buff up your portfolio/resume.
>>62436055I got to 2 years promotion with good raise but I think I’m gonna change companies next move because these guys treat me like shit and have no respect for anyone. It’s still hard though I feel like getting a damn interview somewhere is just so hard to get.
>>62436009figure out what you can do and blast resumes
I know that feel. I work in a non technical role in relation to software and I have had very little to do for the past few years.I think 20-30 years ago there was some justification for our types of jobs because software development was less commoditised, more confined to gigaspergs, took longer, failed more, etc. But all that shit surrounding the software engineers themselves has zero justification now.
>>62436009>oh no i get a paycheck for doing nothing>my life is so hardfuck off and kill yourself niggerfaggot
>>62436009It doesn't matter. Just get paid and go home
>>62437195I hate people who open windows and doors during heat waves
>>62436643I agree, I need an out, but firing me legally at this company is basically impossible for them as long as I'm meeting expectations, which have to line up to whats in my original contract, it's the one good thing about the job. If I could move to the US easily I would.>>62436759You're absolutely right, thats where my anxiety is from>>62437394Yep, that's it basically. Slightly more nuanced but that's the crux of it without boring you with extra info.>>62437891The only thing I've really developed is soft skills, but maybe that's more valuable in a world full of asocial TikTok brain autists where even former normies have lost the ability to communicate with one another>>62437964I know what you mean it's a good problem to have but planning for the future is major anxiety because I feel like a bubble waiting to burst.
>>62436009just look for another job while making money on this one, you've had 2 years.
I also don’t have any work at my jobSo I play video games all day, easiest six figs of my life, maybe eventually they find out but I’ve been doing this five years now with good annual reviews and 5% bonuses so whatever I actually got thanked during the winter for staying late hours and it was because I forgot the time during my Elden bring replay
>>62436088>partition and encrypt a driveTakes 5 minutes of research on Google to figure out how to do if you don't know already. Anybody that can't figure this out is retarded.
>>62436629you didn't waste your time. start using your time to improve your skills at the job. break things and fix them. create the most outlandish resume for you and then start filling in the knowledge gaps.>>62438477muh google. try using google when you are on screen share with a CTO and 6 others. you either can do it in your sleep or you are a liability. my point is you have to have real knowledge and not be able to regurgitate commands. anon, what is the difference between a gpt and mbr partitioning scheme? why go with the former? anon, there is some space between partition 3 and 4 that could have been used. without looking anything up please explain to compliance the difference between a mebi and megabyte. easy to google, but youll only know these things off the top of your head if youve done it before at scale and truly understand why you are doing it.
