I just spent the last 7 days with some boomer family members and noticed they were spending around $150 per person, per day on food. That’s about $4,500 per month per person, or roughly $1,050 over the week. What stood out was that these boomers were clearly wealthy, they never seemed to think twice about the bill. Spending on restaurants was simply normal to them. I know they do this non-stop. The restaurants themselves were also packed with people around their age.On the other hand, the hotter, trendier areas were filled with younger people and working professionals. I highly doubt most of them have the same level of wealth, yet they were still spending freely on dining out.It got me thinking: if you’re not already wealthy, could spending thousands of dollars a month on dining out be quietly eating into your ability to save and invest? Is this part of why so many younger people struggle to build savings or own assets, or are housing costs, wages, and other economic factors far bigger drivers? Dining out is clearly a luxury. Curious to hear what /biz/ thinks. How much do you spend per month food? Dining out?
this sounds like LLM nonsenseof course wasting thousands on dining per month will interfere in your ability to invest
>>62452264I eat out ur mom every night
I refuse to believe that. You're a bot farming engagem.150$ a day? Liar.
>>62452277Boomers, bro. You’re probably just poor.
>>62452272> of course wasting thousands on dining per month will interfere in your ability to investI don’t think you understand how wealthy people that live in major cities can be.
>>62452277Just curious, what is your income?
>>62452291Shut up botSage
>>62452305If we can discuss your income, perhaps we can discuss why you would think $150 is a lot.
>>62452264Faggot threadFaggot OP
I didn’t know so many anons here can’t afford $150 per day on food.
>>62452264>if you’re not already wealthy, could spending thousands of dollars a month on dining out be quietly eating into your ability to save and invest? Bro you're gonna win the Noble Prize in economics for this one.
>>62452264I think a lot of people LARP as wealthy so they can attract women and get into circles with other wealthy people (who are also LARPing).I could get a custom tailored $5k suit right now and drive around in a Mercedes-Benz if I wanted to. I don't, because I'm not in that environment, nor do I really care to be.Most people driving around in super-cars and luxury cars in Miami are renting, or financing it living paycheck to paycheck. High income ≠ wealth if you blow all of it on consumables, or assets that decline in value over time. The Boomers you see could be billionaires, or they could be LARPing.
>>62452475I don’t think they’re larping. I live in a vhcol city. It is just crazy to see the massive wealth gap when you’re in a major city.
>>62452475I think young people larp, not boomers.
>>62452475> because I'm not in that environmentWhat environment? lol. Around high income workers? lol.
>>62452439I am intelligent.
>>62452277Amazon’s per diem is generous if you aren’t working in the real world, goy
>>62452594Im sure you are little guy
>>62452264is that a lot of money to you?I'd bet money those boomers are writing the meal off as a business expense.
>>62452661$4500 a month on food is a lot for anyone. It is just rich people are willing to spend it. Last month, my uncle gave me $6000 but then the vacuum needed a $100 new part and he said it was too expensive.
>>62452264>It got me thinking: if you’re not already wealthy, could spending thousands of dollars a month on dining out be quietly eating into your ability to save and invest?Grown ass man having an epiphany that hits most other people when they're like 12 years old
>>62452703But there are people who spend and go into debt to live beyond their means, so clearly, I am smarter than them.
>>62452703> that hits most other people when they're like 12 years oldClearly it doesn’t.
>>62452686$50k per year is half the cost of one (1) full time employee. I personally have 16 full time employees. So no, to me that's not a lot of money to spend on food. Particularly if it's a business meal so my company is paying for it tax-free.
>>62452728I think it is harder for you to grasp how wealthy people are without needing to work anymore lol.Like city is full of rich people who don’t work. Lol. I myself have needed to work either.
>>62452728Okay, when it is $50k, I guess it isn’t much either. Doesn’t even cover my property taxes. But I myself only spend about $400 a month on food.
there's a lot of people in the world anon, it's not the same people eating out every day. most people can afford it once a week or even less but every time you go it looks crowded stop being retarded
>>62452264the whole point of money is to enjoy it. i blow easily a day on food. do you think at 70 i will regret all those expensive burgers i had? or the kale juice at the juice bar? lmao. lots of people who are competent over save and then the money is either stolen or squandered later by others. if you are broke, save your money. if you have money just blow it before you die. simple as. why make it complicated?
>>62452773Big city bro. My uncle and aunts are like this too as are their friends. And all the big tables were full of regulars. It is a waste of money for people who don’t have high income.
>>62452475a 5k suit and a mercedes really arent that much out of an adults savings. real big boy stuff is harvard educated without debt, real luxury cars, fancy watches etc.
>>62452796whats the point making money if you're not going to spend it? the whole reason you get educated and work and invest is so you can blow it enjoying life.
>>62452794Thats stupid. >>62452804Yeah, it isn’t much but I get what he was saying. >>62452808I enjoy making more money.
>>62452475>get into circles with other wealthy peopleWe don't actually have circlesIf you want to meet rich people, go into business selling to other businesses. All those other businesses are rich people. You'll be selling to rich people all day.but socially that's not really a thing. We don't mingle much.
>>62452808> the whole reason you get educated and work and invest is so you can blow it enjoying life. That’s only if you’re not born rich.
>>62452817~90% of rich people are NOT born rich
>>62452817If you dont have money... you have to work for it. is this a philosophical insight?i dont get how so many people are obsessed with investing and wages and education but are surprised when they see people squandering money. that squandering is the point. the money is there to be enjoyed. life sucks when you're miserly.
>>62452822this treating every expenditure as a business decision is a terrible way to live, no matter how rich or poor a person is.
>>62452794> lots of people who are competent over saveOnly like 10% of American individuals have 1m and the median amount people have when they retire is like 200k. >>62452815Yeah I wanted to say something like this. Like I was surprised at how casual all the rich people dressed and I also wanted to say suits aren’t comfortable after an hour 2. Like the wealthy people I know who retired 30 plus years ago dress casual.
>>62452833Yes, I dress like a homeless man most of the time because it's comfortable. I buy all my clothes at walmart and have them shipped to my door so I don't have to actually go to walmart.
>>62452822Are you dumb?BECAUSE of the massive growth of wealth of the top 10% in the last decade. TONS of 30 year olds born in the upper middle class or above are retiring. That’s why people say if you’re STILL needing to work day, you’re falling behind.
>>62452827this is my day off:walk to coffee shop and have two ice lattes and a breakfast sandwhich (20 bucks)walk home and have a non alcoholic beer and a bag of chips (10 bucks)at lunch walk the seawall and buy a fish and chips (25 bucks)walk home and have a burger at the shop near my house (25 bucks)then wander around. buy a couple pairs of new sneakers (400 bucks)then in the evening have a steak at home (15 bucks)when i do it life is fun when i dont do it life sucks. if you dont have money to enjoy things you like then make more money, invest more, work more etc. im 40 and lived through the rise of google, apple, microsoft, facebook, nvidia, tesla, and even gold 10x since i graduated highschool. being broke is a CHOICE
>>62452822That’s why people say if you or your kids need to work TODAY, you failed. Do you understand
>>62452833my family are not retarded and have piles of money. 75 percent of the elderly i know are retarded imbeciles without money. my family members ALL over save so i try hard to blow at least some of my money: home renovations, expensive bikes, expensive jewelry, eating out, etc.
>>62452841sorry bro here in canada i dont know ANY retired 30 year olds. maybe retiring at 30 is an american thing but not here.
>>62452846i have never met someone who doesnt work. what city are you in? and how is having a job "falling behind"? falling behind what?
>>62452844>im 40 and lived through the rise of google, apple, microsoft, facebook, nvidia, tesla, and even gold 10x since i graduated highschool. being broke is a CHOICEI'm closer to 60 but I agree.I accidentally got rich off my house and purposefully got rich running businesses. But I live in a rural resort area with no good jobs so if a person wants to survive here they about have to go into business for themselves. Probably half my town is self-employed or runs businesses.
>>62452858>i have never met someone who doesnt work.I know a few. I only work a couple hours per week and haven't worked a 40 hour week or an 8 hour day in the last 25 years.
>>62452864so what do you do all day?
>>62452869shitpost on 4chan. Drink beer. I usually take the wife and kids out for dinner in the evening. Lately I've been replaying BOTW and TOTK.sometimes we travel. I live in the mountains so I like to go to the ocean a lot. Usually mexico but I've been all over on vacations. I also metal detect for fun and I sell antiques and collectibles on ebay as a hobby and to meet people with similar hobbies.
>>62452864A lot of people I went to school with or grew up with retired in their 30’s. No point working when your passive income gives you upper class lifestyle and neighborhood.
>>62452877Yes I hired a foreman for my company and stopped working full time at 32. My brother in law runs my business and I just handle the paperwork and sales.
>>62452264Daily nepo schizo thread, look at him go
