If you put too much in a pretax account it can backfire. If you actually maxed a pretax 401k for a 30 year career it would be in the multiple millions and your rmds could actually end up paying higher taxes than if it was in a brokerage (income rates instead of ltcg + forced to take a distribution).

Most grandparents/aunts and uncles left the city(sold houses for a fortune) still have beach houses worth over a million and have expensive houses in desirable areas. Like 3 of my uncles are absolutely loading because they own of fleet of trucks and got in early on atms. All of this was with family money wealth begets wealth.
