So you can retire at 35-55 and draw money from it, its just taxed. The employer set some limits on investments and likely blocks options. If you have an IRA or another 401k you can ROLL those into your 457b (removes withdraw age limits). Do your own research but always fully understand the maxium benefits to you from the plans.
