Why is a company that builds data centers, so crucial in the AI era, in crisis?
What happened?

As far as I understand, Oracle is in cloud subscription stuff and basically hold their consumers hostage. They do literal mob tactics to keep their consumers, like accuse them of violating their easy-as-hell-to-accidentally-violate TOS and say they won’t sue if they sign up for a multi-year contract. They also have a huge penalties for trying to move away from their cloud system. Word is out on Oracle, and new companies are staying away. I think they’re pivoting to AI in part because their model right now (subscription software/database management) is under threat by AI more generally. I’d like another anon’s take that might know about this more than I do, but this is the gist of what I understand.

I have no idea, but thy probably did too much business with openai instead of the less scammy companies and now apple is going to shred altmans asshole over the corporate espionage thing...delaying their ipo, its quite a cascade about to unfold actually...

>>62481571Sounds about right. Some who have dealt with this company have said ORACLE stands for One Rich Asshole Called Larry Ellison.I would add that Oracle's primary business is leasing compute and software. Software became much easier to write with the advent of ChatGPT and compute is significantly less scarce than last year. There are lots of companies like this, but the least popular one will be the first domino to fall.

>>62481488A zombie company jumped onto the latest bandwagon and took on infinite debt to chase it. I legit thought these guys were dead until last year, hadn't heard of them since the early 2000s.
