Mechanization has partially killed it.But operating a machine isn't working with your hands, with a few exceptions sadly. Even a HVAC technician isn't doing that much hand work, and ideally use a actual lifting tool like a crane to avoid any backbreaking labor. SoLow end physical labor jobs are often filled with druggies as well, which isn't bad, but its tiresome because as the institution exist, it must mean a druggie is going to run the department in a few years time, and the druggie is a druggie due poor ability to plan and see the vision.Which usually means neglect of the machinery, poor training, building maintenance going towards the low end, a lack of investment to solve core issues, etc.Its fine to work like this a little, for the experience.

I pour concrete in a small/medium metro area in the midwest, I can make about 150k a year if I really work all the hours available to me. and am willing to travel around the state when they wnt. I don't do all that so I make around 110kThat being said, I just won custody of my kids and can actually make more money by working less if you account for daycare costs, taxes, health insurance...
