Ordering delivery for anything other than a pizza or Chinese food would be rare and it's expensive so you do it maybe only when Mom is sick. The only whizzbang "must have" gizmo close to an iPhone is a color TV, possibly a nice stereo, each of which you will keep for many many years. You have virtually no "subscription" service besides the phone bill and newspaper, not even cable TV was common in those years.So yeah you've got plenty of money for knickknacks. The fact that you can't pull up crap on your phone and realize it's worthless crap compels you to buy it when you see it.

My coffee table from 30 year ago costs 1300 and it is made from crystal. I adjusted it for inflation. However, I doubt you could actually buy it for $1300 today. You think people today can afford a random $2000 coffee table? Modern people are poor as shit. Workers back then actually could save.
