I'll let you in on a secret I learned from working in elder finance. Literally every old person gets scammed out of their money to some extent, either by exorbitant nursing homes, selfish relatives, or just outright scams and frivolous lawsuits. Unless you have kids to protect you, your money WILL be taken from you once you're old. The world sees old people as resources to be harvested.

i've tried protecting my mom from predator's like this since 2018 but she doesn't listen to me at all because she has no respect for me (also covert narc qualities). She has had all of her investments with some boomer-tier investment fund that signs up boomers by going door to door, and her gains in the last 17 years are like less then 100%. I tried explaining to her using logic that those gains are very stunted given the amount of time she's been in the market, and they collect exhorbitant fees for nothing but she just doesn't want to admit she made a mistake, and refuses to rectify it.
