Is Kentucky still a good place to live in? I was browsing different listings around the country right before covid started and was considering living a more rural lifestyle (small house, large acreage). Ideally I would have liked to go completely off grid Dick Proenneke style but I'm too retarded for that. There were tons of seemingly good deals all throughout the country, land and houses, some even waterfront, but ultimately Kentucky seemed to have the best of everything: low cost of living, great house prices, good weather, lots of rural areas, locations, etc. Covid fucked it all up and all the Kentucky youtube realtors I followed either retired or stopped making videos, but I remember for some reason that Kentucky started trending and more people were moving there. They even had billboards in my state promoting Kentucky. Like wtf manAnyways, I'm just curious to read some opinions from anyone who lives/lived there.

>>62510592Haven't been there in a while, but was there for a summer. The squiggly eastern part probably has loads of MD and VA refugees now, but is populated enough and if you want to live in a college town and close to Pittsburgh, Morgantown seemed alright. However, these are on the sort of "outskirts" of the state and mountains. Cities and towns inside WV kinda hide in the mountains and kinda hide from each other because of this. Other than Charleston, I don't know where else in the inner part of the state your wife would find "acceptable." Those would be the three areas I'd look at if your serious about moving there. I was frequenting Pocahontas county, lots of cool parks and roads in the area.I wouldn't even call the Appalachians "rugged" either, WV is just very sparse and kinda distant in amenities you might want or need. I honestly think Montana or Wyoming are more intimidating and dangerous states. WV is almost heaven, the mountains are too lazy to try to kill you there.
I lived in FL my whole life and I want out of this shit. I hate everyone here and I hate the weather. I don’t know why people spend thousand/tens of thousands vacationing here. I don’t know anything about Kentucky but I would rather move there
>>62510191I'm from Kentucky and can tell you a few things. There is cheap land, especially in eastern KY, but generally the good, accessible land is expensive like anywhere else. But Kentucky still has good off grid potential in tbe rural areas if you want that. Housing and land is cheaper than TN because normies from around the country went there instead of KY during the pandemic. We just had some major floods here so you might want to keep that in mind that the climate is getting warmer and wetter. Overall, KY is like a compromise between TN and WV. WV is cheaper but TN is more expensive. I prefer KY because it has the right balance between affordability and rural nature. Its still one of the most affordable states, but that's not saying much because young people here still can't buy houses just like the rest of the country.
