the actual problem that is always ignored is on the side of consumption - who is going to consume all the services or goods provided by AI/robots? I believe we are going to get some very basic (low) universal income to continue down the consumerist path, but not without a fight. Otherwise everything seems kind of pointless. How would you even define who belongs to the rich? Maybe I have a fully automated soap factory, but there is next to no goys needing my soaps, am I still with the cool guys? So in the end I forsee a form of UBI. It might not be just the rich who are paying up for this. The middle class, and by extension democracy, are extensions of the industrial era where the top 10% who create most of the wealth couldn’t easily relocate to avoid taxation. With increased automation, living standards will continue to improve for everyone. However, so will inequality. The top 10% (and especially the 1%) will be incredibly rich, the rest will live slightly better than today, though I don’t know how employment and home ownership will play out. Caveat, the abundance required to avoid riot is predicated on us stopping exploitation of new energy sources in the name of climate change.
