do i move from a my current bank to a credit union? or to a hip online bank like wealth simple/simplii etc?
credit union if you want to stick it to the banks, wealthsimple if you want to support their competition.
Is there even any downside to CU?
>>62528050No ATM network, so paying fees on debit cards, limited credit card products, flakey web 1.0 website services with no advanced features unless you're in a major city.If you're in BC or AB though, they offer things like unlimited deposit insurance and precious metals collateralized loans.
>>62524938>>62528549There's nothing saying you have to only have one bank/CU/etc account, I have three. Use a credit union for most of your deposits so that you get to talk to a real person and not a robot if you ever have problems, and they'll usually gouge you less on mortgages and auto loans, but then keep a small amount in a big bank checking account so that you can use ATMs and have more options for debt products. Both of my CU's have the ability to link other financial institutions and transfer up to a few thousand dollars overnight at no charge in case you need to get more out of an ATM or are working with a company that will only deal with big banks or credit cards.
