Anyone thinking hardware wallets are safe don't know jack shit about how much of an industry robbing people on some private-public list holding crypto has become.

I knew this guy well, he was my childhood best buddy for way far beyond our childhood days ended. One day he went aboard crypto but only because he brought some trezor wallet.
Knowing him for 25 years we always joked and never went serious on anything I didn't start. Every time we discussed crypto he turned my efforts down. Every time I saw a great opportunity he wasn't in on it and I was weak because I needed my buddy as a partner on most of it. I finally went in and much later, deep down I now can understand how tempted he is at resenting me for it. Now he wants to know how much money I have instead of keeping it equal so crypto unironically might have ended our friendship.

Probably, one day, all of them will have been robbed because they don't realize they're fundamentally too broken and inept for self-sovereignty and independence and need a charismatic soothsayer like Michael Saylor to throw their money at and some safe-and-effective, shiny ward to hold and comfort them when they sleep. Not trusting the protocols, the math or technology as tested and true, but some propped-up public figure that reeks of some three-letter agency and basically screams to your face they willingly want to be this current-cycle political fall guy.
I swear these people will probably never learn to trust their guts so let them have wallet.

Coldcard is garbage.
Trezor and Ledger have hundreds of employees. CC has maybe a dozen. After hardware design, marketing, supply chain management, what is left for software security? They didn't notice that their rng wasn't being used for over 5 years??? Because a value was set to 1 or 0?

And no, this doesn't mean that open source is flawed. Coldcard is not open source, you're not allowed to use their software for your projects. They switched away from open source after Foundation Passport forked them. They rewrote a bunch of stuff including their garbage rng to avoid open source. If projects like Passport were still based on Coldcard firmware they might have noticed this fuckup. That's why trezor is doing so great.
