japan holds a lot of america's debts, if they had to sell them all because of their failing economy then that would drag down the american economy with them, so bessent's plan is using fima to buy back all the treasuries that japan holds directly instead of letting them dump the treasuries on the market, but how do you buy back your treasuries that you issued in the first place because you needed to borrow money to cover your deficit? of course you have to print money, that's what bessent is asking from the fed now, he wants them to print money so they can buy their debt back from japan directly, of course this is just a signal to everyone in the world that america can't pay it's debts back anymore and started printing money instead, the classic thing that every empire does right before collapsing
