I got a job without a degree while everyone around me had one. We made the same amount of money and experience and seniority weighed more on the pay rate. HOWEVER, to become the actual “boss” you needed a 4year degree in anything slightly related. Which made people backstabbers just for a $10k pay increase. OP is right. my Mechanical Engineering degree really saved my life, its the only real accomplishment i have, and has opened so many doors for me to get jobs i never even knew existed. i never stay with them for too long so i've never broken 6 figures, but i've always been able to find work when i want it. ive taken entire years off work because i knew i could find a job easily when i needed one.
