It's not sustainable military retirement is essentially a pipedream for enlisted. Less than 10% of them make it to 20 years in the service, which is the minimum to draw a pension.
I know literally zero enlisted men who made it to retirement. Partial exception for an enlisted guy that got his warrant and retired CW4.

Since you can lookup what the current va pay is for 100% disability and the current paygrades it's not hard to infer what rank this guy is. He's either:
E8 or above (protip he isn't lamo)
CW3 or above
O4 or above

Guy is almost certainly a colonel. They gatekeep O4 pretty hard specifically to keep people from becoming career officers who make it to retirement but most officers who make it through that filter make colonel.

Realistically the retired standard of living is outrun by inflation. The alternative is they just don't pay for any of it. If they were smart they would 100% medical out people for no reason at all, the liability pile is so fucking big that it could not be sustainable in a good economy. Military lifers do nothing but cost money their entire lives, they don't build things unless its for more military shit, they don't share any technological advances unless its decades behind and they don't plant crops.
