I finally landed my first supervisory position after nearly 10 years in the fieldI manage a small department and work alongside while managing a small group of professionals day to day. I am two weeks into my position. I am not necessarily insecure or doubting myself when it comes to achieving the work objectives daily/weekly, but I am eager and notice I have been coming off somewhat hot/cold with my teamHow and what should I focus on to help avoid or manage minor insubordination while the team transitions into new leadership while also completing the goals set before me by upper-management?I want to be relaxed and easy going while still maintaining control over my team so that they do their jobs thoroughly and properly. I've already had some minor breach of trust and insubordination from a small group of the team I manage not even a full 2 weeks into the role. How do I stop the infection from spreading, as well as dealing with the extra stressors, of my underlings trying to underline my leadership and authority while still accomplishing the goals expected of me by upper-management?Any 500-word minimum reply below is greatly appreciatedthank you
Fire the best and worst employee on the same day.
>>62570959Insubordination doesn't matter. Your authority doesn't matter. What matters is if the team produces results. You don't get good results by being a bossy asshole. Which is what you sound like.Your role is to find out what tools your crew needs and then help them get those tools. You are support for your people, you serve them. If you're worried about authority and insubordination and undermining you are a poor leader. Or you've stepped into a toxic workplace and you need to fix it.
>>62570997noI have flat out told half of my team that it doesn't matter what they say or do or even think of me: as long as they're done with the workload by the end of the day and their work is properly signed and dated daily according to regulatory standards: I don't care who, what, when, and howin 6 months time it won't matter as this is more considered the transition team that will be entirely replaced with higher skilled labor. The task at hand is ensuring the work gets done and documented properly while maintaining morale enough to transition the departmentDespite being the manager, when I'm not at work; I'm effectively off the clock and leaving my subordinates alone: they are generally the ones reaching out to me on off-days and weekends to inquire about shift coverages, etc
>>62570959retard, get them to do the work and that's it.>Why is it that everyone with a job seems retarded?>500 word minimumit's not that complicated retard
>>62570959Are you bald and fat fuck or insufferable? I hate boss that sound like female boss. They are the crazy combo.
>>62571063I'm bald, fat, kissless, hugless, and maidenless; so I have that going for me at least
>>62571055I managed to chorale and tame the rowdiest of the bunch today; she was the one that was actually being trained to transition into the role before I was interviewed and hired on. She was the most resistant to my leadership thusly; however I was selected simply because I had the proper credentialing and twice as much experience in the field as her. As far as myself and my department: the work is being done and all documentation is within regulatory clarity; everyone can bitch and moan all they want, but if I'm not getting sweet lovenotes from upper-management every other week; I consider my job a success
>>62570959Chill out. Get more than other teams, but don't stress about it. Don't treat things too seriously. Just be safe and teach good habits. Don't get mad at shit when it goes wrong. Just calm down and deal with it. Tomorrow is another day.I could have been a lead or supervisor by now, but I don't want to take the blame for other people fucking up. I've worked where I'm at and cross trained enough to the point I only make a dollar less than what a lead starts at. To me it's not worth the stress. I have enough to manage at home with a family without wrangling tards at work.
>>62570959>transitions into new leadershipYou need to establish dominaceYou need to demonstrate you are to be taken serioulsyLimit bathroom brakes to only 1 minute, 1x per dayEveryone is to show up on time, not 1 minute late or they are fired. The losers you now supervise are to address you a 'Your Supreme Highness' or they are fired.Tell them if they miss any deadline, metric, goal they are fired for cause. You can show up any time you want, you are the boss. Blast loud music in your office and set up a full bar, let the scum know you are superior.
>>62571100extremely solid advice and thanks for putting things into perspectiveI realize I am new, eager, and excited for my career to finally be branching down a new path so I am just looking to maintain that trajectory. You're right that the hands off, high productivity, low effort route is the correct path to take>>62571172lol
