>about to hit $100k in liquid investments
>also own a paid off house that grandpa left me
What now?

that quote is decades old, its now a milly
>>
>>62578375
Might be time to learn what inflation is. The purchasing power of $100k today is nowhere near what it was when Munger said that
>>
>>62578424
He said it in the 90s, so it's more like $250,000. But the quote isn't wrong, it's usually at 100,000 you start seeing the numbers really going up when you're investing. It's not like you're making more percentage wise, but the numbers are just bigger and noticeable.
>>
>>62578424
Not necessarily. I get you're applying the idea of accounting for inflation but it's just referring to compound interest. At 100k, even a conservative savings account is going to net a decent yield year over year, then when you take the compounding into the equation, it can grow nicely over a a few decades.
>>
>>62578446
Also, this quote was not directed at people working corporate jobs with big pay checks, but normal folks working at some of the companies Berkshire had scooped up. Which back then, their paychecks went a little further than they do today.
>>
>>62578447
I have like 25k in VUAA(europoor S&P500) and 5k out it is just 20% pure profit without tax since here we do not have capital tax. It just 1.5 year of putting away beer money
So yeah, x4 is 100k and 20k would be free money. But I will I was buying more Nvidia and not selling Intel (and buying more)
>>
>>62578424
Only good post in this thread - it’s $1mil these days.
>>
>>62578375
You need to get a wife to help you spend all that money ;-p
>>
100k in 1960 dollars is like 1 million now and it is not possible to simply 'save' your way to 1 million.
>>
>>62578446
>when you're investing
This boardi s such a midwit shithole now
You need to 'know' which investments will actually go up, or be investing after the market takes a fat shit like it did in 2020/2022 or that fast bear market in 2025 and everything is going up.

once you hit 100k, you also lose more than you ever did
its not a given that you make the right choices

100k is the starting line at best.
>>
>>62578375
I have 300k now and I feel like it's less than the 100K he was talking about
>>
>>62578375
The first $100k he is refering to is in 1950s money, applying that concept today with all the inflation since then the phrase needs to be adjusted to read "The First $1,255,458.65 is a bitch, but you gotta do it." It also helps to start working for Warren Buffet when Buffett was already making good money and controlling a lot of assets. If Munger was so smart he should have done it on his own instead of being second to Buffett
>>
>>62582073
he made that comment in the 1990s though
>>
>>62578375
he made this quote in 1987 btw

you arent even close if you have 100k in 2026

6 figure hell, where most end.
Grampy hooked you up. Owning a house outright is much more impressive than $100k invests.

>You need to 'know' which investments will actually go up
You didn't know NVIDIA would go up after every AI company announced they're buying from them so much that they stop producing gaming GPUs? You didn't know micron would go up after NVIDIA said they don't get enough RAM chips so they have to buy out the whole stock? Are you a drooling retard?
>>
>>62578375
Invest in whores, no more than 1k a month.
>>
>>62578375
He said that in 1999. That is 1.7 million dollars today.
>>
>>62578447
Yes necessarily. I get you're applying the idea of accounting for compound interest. But the quote is wrong, since compound interest starts working at $1 and Munger deliberately used an amount that was high for the time. He did this because the number was just big and noticeable. An equally large amount today would be ~280k, imbuing the old quote with contemporary pertinence.
>>
>>62578375
If you do nothing and just wait 25 years, you'll have a million. Paid off house, a million dollars, that's enough to retire. Should be able to get that down to 15-20 years if you keep actively saving. YGMI
>>
>>62587797
if you have a non shit job and save every penny that's doable in like 8-10 years
>>
>>62578446
>He said it in the 90s, so it's more like $250,000
100k is like 300-400k now. Dollar halved just since Covid, at least.
>>
I am in the same situation except I am at 175k

What now
>>
>>62578447
>>62578446
>>62578375
What are you supposed to do when you have 100k? Invest in what?
>>
>>62578375
>What now?

You're about to find out that it doesn't actually become easier to make money after 100k and you will more than likely lose it as well.
