Anyone here do a travel job? I'm in talks with a company who wants to hire me on as a field service engineer, and they expect me to fly out around once a month for a week or so (they say 25% travel) to customer sites. What is life like when you travel a lot for business?

For context:
>not 30 yet, single
>per diem and average marriott stays expected
>would be a pretty decent real income bump of 20%

From someone who grew up with a parent constantly abroad for work/conferences I can say it's very hard on family life.
If you're 30 and single I think you will enjoy your time traveling around and working (depending where you are sent ofcourse). Though you may tire of hotel rooms and bar lobbies as it could also become a somewhat isolated experience.

Just dont let it impact your ability to start and maintain a family.

My dad was away on ships at 1 month on-off intervals which made it hard on mom, so maybe I wouldn't do this if I had kids. But 25% doesn't seem so bad.

As long as you're aware then that's the main bit I would say. Hope it all goes well for you anon

I don't travel super frequently but have gone for weeks at a time sometimes over a month and it's pretty fun if it's in Europe or some cool places but otherwise it just sucks ass after a while. Eating chipotle in a hotel room in a flyover bumfuck town gets boring real fast

it's awesome. i love it. i did it for 20 years. freedom, bitches and hoes if i get lonely. get to drink at the hotel bar. I stayed at some nice hotels and got to drink at a lot of bars. i've had so many hoes i can't even count them all. probably hit 1000

I guess the question to ask is where my clientbase is going to be. I don't think travel would be that bad if I got to go to sexy locations routinely, but I doubt that's the case. Hopefully it's at least a blend and not Hooverville Michigan every time.
