Is BTC really impossible to "inflate" like the Coinbase CEO said today?
I clearly remember Sam Bank-man (the FTX CEO) was able to create and mint wBTC backed by absolutely nothing for years, and he was able to sell it as actual BTC.

Chainlink solves this.

the way I see it, people are free to sell their BTC (impossible to inflate) for wBTC (minted by Sam)
strange choice if you ask me but okay

Picrel is iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF Prospectus page 26. BlackRock thinks the chances are non-zero. The current chain of Bitcoin can't change this rule, but if people decide to start supporting a hard fork that eventually could become "the" Bitcoin, then it's possible.

If it were self custodied it would have a supply cap. Fractional reserves ensure that no exchange can cover withdrawals. Not your keys not your coins means more than the market understands. BTC would have to have defi and no exchanges holding any supply for it to have a verifiable supply cap.

they can just add a bit and double the supply

considering the BTC nodes have an autistic conniption at even trimming ex data, I seriously doubt there will be a single large change to BTC protocol in the next century.
