I’m aware that you achieve better results if you invest using lump sums versus dollar cost averagingHowever I am not aware of to what extent it’s superior and how the timing of these lump sums would workThere are some indexes that just continuously go up, sure there are day to day dips of a % or so but outside of big world happenings they’re pretty steadyWhen exactly should you invest a lump sum, or just DCA and forget about this
dca
Lump sum but you have to be deeply connected to the inner workings of the universe.
DCA should be your default method. Only add a lump sum when there's a significant dip. If you try to time the market you'll just end up wasting money.
>>62587205Well the way I’m doing it now is I have about 10k in the bank (emergency fund if my car explodes but I still live at home so…..) and that sits in a HYSAThen I just DCA much paychecksSo I’m kinda just saving that lump for a dip or life emergency
you will sleep better with DCA.peace of mind> (potential) gainsA good nights sleep is literally priceless. >"Alas, why is there no sleep to be sold?
>>62587274It's the opposite for me.I had peace of mind once I put my lump sum in. It's in, it's bought, it's done. I can forget about it now and not fret about anything, just check back in X amount of years. It's not hanging over my head anymore, should I, shouldn't I, it's done.
>>62587070>you achieve better results if you invest using lump sumsStop eating up gobblehead propaganda. This is only true if don't mind being in the red for decades, and only if you think the American empire will never decline. What you can do is to lump sum into SGOV or CSHI, sit comfy on certainty, and DCA out of that and into whatever you want to invest in.
>>62587070Anon I was 40% cash a few weeks ago and said fuck it and dumped the rest VOO/VGT/VXUS and I’m glad I did.DCA would take me another half year and I didn’t want to wait
>>62587070DCA until the top, then it'll crash, then you panic sell at a loss, then you feel smart because it goes lower, but it will bounce up, when it goes above ATH - that's when you lump sum, because it will go down again, then you baghold for 5 years and achieve a 1.2% return rate
>>62587634>>62587316Stop acting retarded>>62587485That’s not the same scenario though
