How much math should you learn in order to learn economics?
>>

My girlfriend is an accountant and I have her fill out the tip whenever we go out to restaurants
>>
>>62597197
I'm not referring to accounting
>>
Highschool level math should be enough, you barely need to use differential calculus and probabilities. Knowing how to compute the Fourier series of a function is completely useless.
>>
>>62597210
You think I care what you are referring to?
>>
>>62597309
What about multivariate calculus? I glanced in some textbooks and many were full of partial derivatives
>>

Depends how far you want to go. If you want to be conversational in economic theory, all you need to read is the book “The Worldly Philosophers.” If you want to make all living in economics, then you’ll need to master calculus and statistics.

wow what a great thread
>>
>>62597352
As I said, highschool level math
>>
>>62597192
Very little since economics is not a science, just a technique to create narratives
>>
Fourier analysis is on the advanced side of math and economics.

I never learnt about partial derivatives, gradients or Lagrange multipliers in high school, so I didn't think of that as high school level math. Is there any more "high school math" I need to know if I want to learn economics?
>>

How much is Fourier analysis good for in economics? The only applications I can find online seem quite niche. Are you serious or just throwing things out there?
>>
Stochastic calculus

You dont need any. Just schizophrenia
>>
Cross-multiplication
>>
>>62597192
Addition
Subtraction
Multiplication
Division
Fractions
Percentages

That's literally it.

If you already know that income should be higher than expenses, debt is usually bad, and offer/demand dictates price, you are already above other people. And miles above socialists
