... in a touristic area, and if everything goes well, might give me a similar level of income as my current one (relatively high for my country) almost immediately, would give me high returns and might even grow fast. I've done some calculations and research, and it seems to be feasible, even though I'm far from expert in any of this. The thing is, my knowledge of business is limited. I'm not terribly ignorant about numbers and stuff, but I'm just not knowledgeable or experienced (I'm a computer guy, though I do have a little of "third-person experience" and had a veery basic intro to accounting, though I forgot that shit). The initial investment is high and will eat a big percentage of my savings, and half of that would be spent importing some expensive shit from china. Also, if I start this, I might have to leave my job in a couple of months (though that's my goal, because I'm tired of the office politics bs) OR burn some more money to hire someone.Any pointers/recommentations to learn more about this stuff? What kinda professional should I talk to to help me verify my calculations? Should I not pull the trigger?
>>62615024>almost immediatelyDon't count on it. You're going to get rekt as the economy gets worse and fewer people have less discretionary money to spend. Now is the worst time to start a business, I've ever seen.
>>62615058It would be a EV charging business. There are no charging stations around this area even though it gets millions of tourists during summer (I'm in the southern hemisphere). I have a big sunny land where I can get cheap energy, BUT it's not in a great location, though it's close to a well located road that is surrounded by multiple touristic locations. I could expand later and maybe even build a charging station if things go well, otherwise I could just offer "emergency charge" services (those are expensive). I could use this as a test run.EV sales grew a lot this year, but I live in a small country, so that's not really much. You are right, though, shit is really bad, and EVs are still too fucking expensive for most people. But I could use this to make things a little bit cheaper in my community.I gotta be honest here: I haven't done any market research. I don't even know how to do that. Just run some surveys? I've been thinking of asking local businesses if they have had clients that owned EVs, and also asking local EV owners directly. My biggest fears are that I don't know shit about the legal parts of any of this, and also that I might end up being scammed by the chinese "providers" (I'll have to do the DD, of course, though I'm not sure how to verify the chargers before shipping) or by electricians, or having to resell the chargers later because things weren't as good as I thought. The initial expenses are basically 90% of the costs.
>>62615114>I haven't done any market research. I don't even know how to do that. You can just google how many EVs are in your area. They typically report that when you register a vehicle. You can also call around to the car rental places and ask if they rent out EVs, how many they have, and their availability. If you're basing your business on tourism, though, you have to take seriously how much travel will be down with so many people being laid off due to AI and the rising prices from the fuel crisis that will emerge from the situation in Iran. Also, are there any barriers to entry? Can someone else in your area see you doing this and copy it? Can a rental car company, dealership, towing company, or larger charging company come in and put you out of business? Because if they can and it's worth it, they will.
>>62615176>You can just google how many EVs are in your area. They typically report that when you register a vehicle.I live 1 hour away from the biggest 3 cities in my country, though 2 of those are touristic too. The other one is the biggest city, where most tourists come from. You made me look for reports, and I found one, so thanks for this idea. I had only read articles. Turns out one of those had direct links to the source. It says that about 60% of the cars sold in my country are sold in that major city, and that about 6.5% of the cars sold this year are some kind of EV, of which 90% are pluggable, and more than half of them are full electric. So, yeah, this looks promising, IMO, though not as much as much as I hoped.>You can also call around to the car rental places and ask if they rent out EVs, how many they have, and their availability.Right, thanks.>If you're basing your business on tourism, though, you have to take seriously how much travel will be downTbh things don't seem to be slowing down too much. Also, considering the kind of people that can buy EVs here (middle/middle upper class), I would not worry much about slow tourism either. But I do worry that most people that come here and live here are not in those classes...>barriers to entryTbh, this is something I don't know. I don't know if I have to follow local regulations, or buy certified chargers, or... >Can someone else in your area see you doing this and copy it?The kinda chargers I'd buy are kinda difficult to find/source, and expensive. But sure, if someone does the research, they could copy my business, or part of it at least.>Can a... larger charging company come in and put you out of business? They sure could. I don't know if it's worth it for the companies that do so. I'd guess it isn't, since they haven't done so already, while other parts of the country have a lot of chargers already. My advantage is the cheap energy that I'd get from PV panels in my land.
can someone convince me not to pull the trigger? this shit is too risky for me :/
Interesting if there are ways to start a paper business? A very close simulation
