Building up your investments to 500k and then loosing all your liquidity in real state with its associated costs, in my opinion, is shooting yourself in the foot financially. I would just keep investing until 1M, and then reevaluate your options and what you want in life. No liquidity and being tied to non profitable real state will most likely limit your options.
