The US benefits directly from GDP growth but does not directly have negative consequences from debt growth.
Especially since the majority of that debt is financed by foreign holders. They are in a pretty lucky position, getting to spend a lot more than they would otherwise with basically no consequences due to their global position in the financial sector.
