In other words, America is already pushing its refining system extremely hard and still isn’t producing a meaningful distillate inventory rebuild. Crude production remains strong at roughly 13.86 million b/d, while crude exports jumped about 691,000 b/d to approximately 4.5 million b/d.The key takeaway is therefore not the small weekly distillate build but the inability to rebuild stocks materially despite near-maximum refinery utilisation. With Gulf/Hormuz supply disruption simultaneously restricting the international middle-distillate system, there is very little spare refining capacity available to provide relief. The US is entering this situation with exceptionally low diesel inventories, particularly on the East Coast, declining crude inventories and an SPR already heavily depleted. That leaves the system increasingly vulnerable to refinery outages, hurricanes, stronger autumn agricultural demand or further disruption to global supply.
